71. Attrezzarsi – to be geared up/to be all set for
A: Mi sono attrezzato per il campeggio.
B: Con la Playstation?
A: Eh già mica posso lasciarla a casa!
A: I'm all set for camping.
B: With the PlayStation?
A: Yeah, I can't leave it at home!
72. Augurarsi – to hope/wish
A: Mi auguro che oggi non piova.
B: Allora metto l’ombrello nella borsa.
A: Che spiritosa...
A: I hope it doesn't rain today.
B: Then I'll put my umbrella in the bag.
A: How funny...
73. Avvalersi – to exercise
A: Chi ha mangiato tutta la Nutella e lasciato il barattolo vuoto nella dispensa?
B: Mi avvalgo della facoltà di non rispondere...
A: Who ate all the Nutella and left the empty jar in the pantry?
B: I exercise the right to remain silent...
74. Avventarsi – to pounce
A: I miei gatti si avventano sempre sul cibo come se non gli avessi dato da mangiare per una settimana.
B: Tipico comportamento felino...
A: My cats always pounce on their food as if I hadn't fed them in a week.
B: Typical feline behavior...
75. Avvilirsi – to be upset/to feel bad
A: Dai non avvilirti, nessuno si è accorto che sei uscita in ciabatte. Siamo in Australia!
B: Lo so, ma io non potrò mai dimenticarlo.
A: Come sei drammatica... ho già visto un sacco di persone uscire in pigiama!
A: Come on, don't feel bad, no one noticed you went out in slippers. We're in Australia!
B: I know, but I'll never forget it.
A: You're so dramatic... I've already seen plenty of people go out in their pyjamas!
76. Bagnarsi – to get wet
A: Quando il marmo si bagna mostra venature invisibili da asciutto. L’acqua le fa risaltare come fossero disegnate.
B: E questa dove l’hai sentita?
A: L’ho imparato durante il mio corso d’arte.
A: When marble gets wet, it shows veins that are invisible when dry. Water makes them stand out as if they were drawn on.
B: And where did you hear that?
A: I learned it in my art class.
77. Battersi – to fight
A: Mi sono battuto per l’ultimo pezzo di pizza.
B: E hai perso.
A: Lo so, perdo sempre contro di te!
A: I fought for the last piece of pizza.
B: And you lost.
A: I know, I always lose to you!
78. Bearsi – to take delight in something/doing something
A: Come dice mia nonna: ‘bearsi è bene ma non bearsi è meglio’.
B: Ma cosa stai dicendo? Fidarsi è bene ma non fidarsi è meglio.
A: No, no: ‘bearsi è bene ma non bearsi è meglio’. Mia nonna dice proprio così.
A: As my grandmother says: 'to take delight in something is good, but not to take delight in something is better.'
B: What are you saying? To trust is good, but not to trust is better.
A: No, no: 'to take delight in something is good, but not to take delight in something is better.' That's exactly what my grandmother says.
79. Beffarsi – to outsmart
A: È impossibile beffarsi dei miei gatti. Quando mi nascondo, mi trovano sempre.
B: E perché mai ti nascondi?
A: Giochiamo a nascondino, ma perdo sempre.
B: Come quando eravamo bambini. Nascondino non è proprio il tuo forte!
A: It's impossible to outsmart my cats. When I hide, they always find me.
B: And why on earth would you hide?
A: We play hide-and-seek, but I always lose.
B: Like when we were kids. Hide-and-seek isn't really your forte!
80. Bersi – to believe
A: Ieri sono piovuti pesci in America.
B: E tu pensi che io me la beva?
A: È vero. Immagina come saranno stati felici i gatti!
A: It rained fish in America yesterday.
B: And you expect me to believe that?
A: That's true. Imagine how happy the cats must have been!
