121. Emozionarsi – to get emotional

A: Oggi mi sono emozionata tantissimo.

B: Perché? Tuo figlio ti ha sorriso?

A: No, i miei gatti hanno imparato a fare la pipì in giardino!

B: Pensavo che saresti cambiata con la maternità, ma sei sempre la solita gattara!

A: I got so emotional today.

B: Why? Did your son smile at you?

A: No, my cats learned to pee in the garden!

B: I thought you'd change with motherhood, but you're still the same crazy cat lady!

122. Esaltarsi – to get really excited/to be thrilled

A: Mi sono esaltata quando ho visto che al Super Bowl di 3 anni fa si sarebbero esibiti Dr Dre, Snoop Dog, Eminem e 50 Cent.

B: Eh ci credo!

A: I was thrilled when I saw that Dr Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, and 50 Cent would be at the Super Bowl three years ago.

B: Oh, I bet!

123. Esaurirsi – to run out/get exhausted

A: Le batterie si sono esaurite dopo 5 minuti. Ma come è possibile?

B: Scusa ma dove le hai comprate?

A: Su Tuttoaundollaro.com. Ho fatto un affarone: 1 dollaro e spedizione gratuita.

B: Ah ecco... sono sorpreso che siano durate più di un minuto...

A: The batteries ran out after 5 minutes. How is that possible?

B: Where did you buy them?

A: On Tuttoaundollaro.com. I got a great deal: $1 and free shipping.

B: Oh, right... I'm surprised they lasted more than a minute...

124. Esercitarsi – to practice

A: Scusa ma cosa stai facendo? E perché il cane non la smette di abbaiare?

B: Mi sto allenando per il prossimo Dog Factor.

A: Dog che?!

B: Dog Factor. La competizione in cui i cantanti si esibiscono con i loro cani.

A: No vabbè dai...

A: Excuse me, what are you doing? And why won't the dog stop barking?

B: I'm practicing for the next Dog Factor.

A: Dog what?!

B: Dog Factor. The competition where singers perform with their dogs.

A: Come on...

125. Esibirsi – to perform

A: Allora come è andata? Hai vinto Dog Factor?

B: Io e Maracaibo ce l’abbiamo messa tutta. Ci siamo esibiti davanti a una folla di cani ululanti, ma alla fine un chiuaua di nome Renato Zero ha abbaiato sulle note di Who let the dogs out e non c’è stata storia.

A: Che peccato! Ma ti aspetti davvero che io creda a tutte ‘ste cavolate?

B: No, davvero. Ecco le foto!

A: Mamma mia. Adesso posso davvero dire di averle viste tutte!

A: So how did it go? Did you win Dog Factor?

B: Maracaibo and I gave it our all. We performed in front of a crowd of howling dogs, but at the end, a Chihuahua named Renato Zero barked at the tune of "Who Let the Dogs Out" and there was no contest.

126. Esporsi – to expose oneself

A: Perché ti esponi sempre alle critiche dicendo quello che pensi?

B: La vita è corta, non ho tempo di fare cerimonie.

A: A volte qunado sono con te mi sembra di essere in un film di Sergio Leone.

B: Grazie. Uno dei complimenti migliori che mi abbiano mai fatto!

A: Why do you always expose yourself to criticism by speaking your mind?

B: Life is short, I don't have time to stand on ceremony.

A: Sometimes when I'm with you, I feel like I'm in a Sergio Leone movie.

127. Estraniarsi – to withdraw/to disengage/to tune out

A: Mi sono estraniato dalla conversazione durante la riunione.

B: Benvenuto nel club!

A: I disengaged from the conversation during the meeting.

B: Welcome to the club!

128. Farsi – different meanings depending on the verb/structure that follows

A: Lo sai che anche per gli animali è possibile rimanere estasiati?

B: Quando? Quando vedono le crocchette?

A: No, quando ascoltano la musica.

B: Sul serio? Incredibile!

A: Me lo sono inventato...

B: Ma perché?

A: Volevo sembrare interessante... Farti una buona impressione...

B: Ahah! Andiamo a guardare la partita. Sono sicura che avrai un sacco di cose interessanti da drimi...

A: Did you know that even animals can be ecstatic?

B: When? When they see treats?

A: No, when they listen to music.

B: Seriously? Incredible!

A: I made that up...

B: But why?

A: I wanted to seem interesting... Make a good impression on you...

B: Haha! Let's go watch the game. I'm sure you have a lot of interesting things to tell me...

129. Fermarsi – to stop

A: Continua a fare agnolotti. Non fermarti finché non te lo dico io!

B: Che fai, stai cercando di ipnotizzarmi?

A: Sì! Fai più agnolotti che puoi. Ti prego! E pure le polpettine!

B: Va bene amore mio.

A: Keep making agnolotti. Don't stop until I tell you to!

B: What are you doing, trying to hypnotize me?

A: Yes! Make as many agnolotti as you can. Please! And the meatballs too!

B: All right, my love.

130. Fidanzarsi – to get engaged

A: Una vecchietta si è fidanzata con un giovane di 20 anni.

B: Fammi indovinare... e poi il tizio le ha rubato tutti i soldi.

A: No, la signora gli ha svaligiato la casa e gli ha rubato lo yacht per andare in Giamaica. Quando è stata arrestata ha detto di avere una rara malattia che la spingeva a cacciare giovani uomini e rubargli tutto. Poverina... Mi fa una pena... Adesso ho anche visto che la vecchietta ha aperto una pagina per raccogliere fondi e farsi curare...

B: Ti prego dimmi che non hai ancora donato.

A: Sì e sono stato piuttosto generoso. Le ho dato 100 dollari.

B: Cento dollari alla vecchia truffatrice e uno strofinaccio a me per il mio compleanno? Adesso basta. Me ne vado.

B: Proprio non capisco... Lei mica ha una malattia...

A: An old lady got engaged to a 20-year-old.

B: Let me guess... and then the guy stole all her money.

A: No, the lady burgled his house and stole his yacht to go to Jamaica. When she was arrested, she said she had a rare disease that drove her to chase young men and steal everything from them. Poor thing... I feel sorry for her... I’ve also seen that the old lady has started a fundraising page to pay for treatment...

B: Please tell me you haven't donated yet.

A: Yes, and I was quite generous. I gave her $100.

B: A hundred dollars to the old con artist and a dishcloth for me for my birthday? That's enough. I'm leaving.

B: I really don't understand... She doesn't have a disease...
