51. Affezionarsi – to grow fond
A: Mi sono affezionata al mio cactus.
B: Speriamo che non ti abbracci mai.
A: Battutona...
A: I've grown fond of my cactus.
B: I hope it never hugs you.
A: What a joke...
52. Affrettarsi – to hurry/to rush
A: Mi sono affrettato per arrivare alla riunione e quando sono arrivato a destinazione non c’era nessuno.
B: Come mai?
A: La riunione è domani e qui in Australia oggi è festa nazionale quindi non c’era nessuno in ufficio.
B: Pensi ancora col calendario italiano eh?
A: Eh già...
A: I rushed to get to the meeting, and when I got there, there was no one there.
B: How come?
A: The meeting is tomorrow, and here in Australia, it's a national holiday today, so there was no one in the office.
B: You still think in terms of the Italian calendar, huh?
A: Yeah...
53. Aggrapparsi – to cling
A: Quando ero piccola mi aggrappavo sempre ai vestiti di mia mamma quando eravamo in giro.
B: Come mai?
A: Eh chi lo sa, magari avevo paura che mi vendesse.
B: Ahah!
A: When I was little, I used to always cling to my mum's clothes when we were out and about.
B: How come?
A: Who knows, maybe I was afraid she’d sell me.
B: Haha!
54. Agitarsi – to stress out/to get nervous
A: Agitarsi fa male alla salute.
B: Concordo. Beviamoci un bel bicchiere di vino.
A: Stressing out is bad for your health.
B: I agree. Let's have a nice glass of wine.
55. Allacciarsi – to tie/to fasten
A: Sai come si chiama il metodo più comune per allacciarsi le scarpe?
B: Il metodo della nonna!
A: Bravo!
A: Do you know the most common method for tying your shoes?
B: The grandmother's method!
A: Well done!
56. Allenarsi – to train/to work out
A: Oggi mi sono allenato per un’ora.
B: A che sport? A cambiare canale?
A: Certo che sei proprio acida! Mangia un po’ di zucchero che magari ti addolcisci un po’.
A: I worked out for an hour today.
B: What sport? Changing the channel?
A: You sure are sour! Eat some sugar, maybe it'll sweeten you up a bit.
57. Allontanarsi – to move away
A: Ho messo un localizzatore al mio gatto per vedere quanto si sarebbe allontanato da casa.
B: Oh e quanto si è allontanato?
A: Non ha mai lasciato casa nostra e il tragitto più lungo che ha fatto è stato dalla cucina alla camera da letto...
B: Tipico!
A: I put a tracker on my cat to see how far he would go from home.
B: Oh, and how far did he go?
A: He never left our house, and the furthest he went was from the kitchen to the bedroom...
B: Classic!
58. Ammalarsi – to get sick
A: Alcuni studi dimostrano che quando ci ammaliamo le coccole aiutano il sistema immunitario.
B: Vuoi un abbraccio?
A: Sì!
B: Bastava chiedere!
A: Some studies show that cuddling helps the immune system when we get sick.
B: Do you want a hug?
A: Yes!
B: All you had to do was ask!
59. Ammirarsi – to admire oneself
A: La matrigna di Cappuccetto Rosso si ammirava allo specchio ogni mattina.
B: Mi sa che ti sei confusa. Intendi la matrigna della Spada nella Roccia.
C: Ma cosa state dicendo tutti e due? È ora di riguardare i capolavori della Disney.
A: Little Red Riding Hood's stepmother admired herself in the mirror every morning.
B: I think you're confused. You mean the stepmother in The Sword in the Stone.
C: What are you both talking about? It's time to rewatch Disney masterpieces.
60. Appassionarsi – to get passionate
A: Si è appassionato di scacchi-pugilato e da allora non si è perso un evento.
B: Ma perché ti inventi sempre tutto?
A: Te lo giuro! Perché non mi credi mai?
A: He became passionate about chess-boxing and hasn't missed an event since.
B: Why do you always make everything up?
A: I swear! Why don't you ever believe me?
