21. Abituarsi – to get used to

A: Non mi sono ancora abituata a vedere la gente in costume a Natale.

B: Io non mi sono ancora abituato a camminare a testa in giù.

A: Ma cosa dici?

B: Viviamo nella terra Down Under no?

A: Ahah mi ero scordata della canzone!

A: I still haven't gotten used to seeing people in swimsuits at Christmas.

B: I still haven't gotten used to walking upside down.

A: What are you talking about?

B: We live in the land Down Under, right?

A: Haha, I forgot about the song!

22. Accorgersi – to notice

A: Ti sei accorto che ti sei messo la maglia al contrario?

B: Sì, ma l’ho visto fare a un influencer. È alla moda!

A: Mi daresti il contatto dell’influencer?

B: Ah, vuoi seguirlo anche tu?

A: No, vorrei solo dirgli di farsi furbo.

B: Certo che sei antipatica!

A: Did you notice that you are wearing your shirt backwards?

B: Yes, but I saw an influencer do it. It's trendy!

A: Could you give me the influencer's contact details?

B: Oh, do you want to follow him too?

A: No, I just want to tell him to show some sense.

B: You sure are annoying!

23. Andarsene – to leave

A: Quando te ne vai?

B: Me ne vado quando smetterò di trovare scuse per non farlo. Ahah!

A: Scusa ma perché non ti fermi a dormire?

B: Non volevo autoinvitarmi…

A: Da quando mia cugina deve chiedere il permesso per fermarsi a dormire da me? Mi casa es su casa!

A: When are you leaving?

B: I'll leave when I stop making excuses not to. Haha!

A: Why don't you stay the night?

B: I didn't mean to invite myself...

A: Since when does my cousin have to ask permission to stay the night? Mi casa es su casa!

24. Arrendersi – to give up

A: Se dovessi viaggiare indietro nel tempo e dare un consiglio a te stesso, cosa gli diresti?B: Segui il tuo cuore e non arrenderti mai.

A: Profondo, amico mio.

A: If you could travel back in time and give yourself some advice, what would you tell yourself?

B: Follow your heart and never give up.

A: Deep, my friend.

25. Baciarsi – to kiss each other

A: Vi siete baciati ieri sera?

B: No, ma ci siamo scambiati un sacco di emoji! Più romantico, direi.

A: Credo di aver bisogno di un manuale per queste nuove generazioni...

A: Did you kiss last night?

B: No, but we exchanged a lot of emojis! More romantic, I'd say.

A: I think I need a handbook for these new generations...

26. Barricarsi – to barricade oneself

A: Hai sentito della rapina in banca?

B: No... cosa è successo?

A: Una nonnina ha preso in ostaggio i rapinatori, gli ha rubato tutto il bottino ed è fuggita con uno skateboard che ha rubato a un bambino.

B: Scusa ma dove l’hai letto?

A: Sulla pagina ‘I complotti di zio Peppe’. Perché?

B: Ah... E immagino fosse lui l’influencer che aveva la maglia al contrario...

A: Sì!!! Come fai a saperlo?

B: ...

A: Did you hear about the bank robbery?

B: No... what happened?

A: A little old lady took the robbers hostage, stole all their loot, and escaped with a skateboard she stole from a child.

B: And where did you read that?

A: On the "Uncle Peppe's Conspiracies" page. Why?

B: Oh... And I guess he was the influencer wearing his shirt backwards...

A: Yes!!! How did you know?

B: ...

27. Chiudersi – to close oneself

A: Giacomino, ti sei di nuovo chiuso in cantina a fare esperimenti con i tuoi funghi?

B: Mamma, non mi chiudere!

A: No, veramente sei tu che ti sei chiuso...

A: Giacomino, are you locked in the basement again experimenting with your mushrooms?

B: Mum, don't bother me!

A: Actually, it's you who locked yourself in the basement…

28. Comportarsi – to behave

A: A volte comportarmi male mi piace così tanto che mi vengono i brividi.

B: Sarà per questo che hai sempre freddo?

A: Ma di tutte le buone qualità di papà, proprio le sue battute dovevi ereditare?

B: E dai!!! Fattela una risata!!!

A: Sometimes I enjoy misbehaving so much it gives me the shivers.

B: Is that why you're always cold?

A: Of all dad’s good qualities, did you really have to inherit his jokes?

B: Come on!!! Have a laugh!!!

29. Convincersi – to convince oneself

A: Ma perché non ti convinci a comprare una lavastoviglie?

B: Mi piace guardarti lavare i piatti.

A lancia uno sguardo malefico a B.

B: Tesoro, ho ordinato la lavastovgilie stamattina!

A: Bravo, così mi piaci!

A: Why don't you convince yourself to buy a dishwasher?

B: I like watching you wash the dishes.

A gives B a wicked look.

B: Honey, I ordered the dishwasher this morning!

A: Good, that's the spirit!

30. Dimenticarsi – to forget

A: Una volta mi sono dimenticata di chiudere la porta della cantina e la mia gatta è uscita dalla porta ruttando.

B: E perché?

A: Si era scafunata mezza provola che i miei parenti ci avevano mandato dalla Calabria!

B: Ahaha! Buongustaia!

A: One time I forgot to close the cellar door, and my cat came out the door burping.

B: Why?

A: She'd eaten half the provola cheese my relatives had sent us from Calabria!

B: Haha! A foodie!
