Addormentarsi – to fall asleep

A: Ti sei addormentato durante la riunione?

B: No, stavo solo "meditando profondamente" sulla presentazione.

A: Did you fall asleep during the meeting?

B: No, I was just "deeply meditating" on the presentation.

Alzarsi – to get up

A: È scientificamente provato che alzarsi alle 5 del mattino rende le persone più produttive.

B: Mi dispiace per te e le tue fonti, ma io sono felice delle mie otto ore di sonno.

A: It's scientifically proven that getting up at 5 am makes people more productive.

B: No offense to you or your sources, but I'm happy with my eight hours of sleep.

Annoiarsi – to get bored

A: Ti stai annoiando?

B: No, no! Questo documentario sulla storia delle graffette è estremamente interessante!

A: Are you getting bored?

B: No, no! This documentary on the history of paperclips is extremely interesting!

Arrabbiarsi – to get angry

A: Perché tua nonna si è arrabbiata?

B:Perché le ho detto che in Australia mettono la panna nella carbonara.

A: Ah ah ah!

A: Why did your grandma get angry?

B: Because I told her that in Australia, they put cream in carbonara.

A: Ha ha ha!

5. Chiamarsi – to be called

A: Ma gli hai detto come ti chiami?

B: Sì...

A: E perché ti ha chiamato Fenicia?

B: Non ne ho idea, ma non è il nome più strano che mi hanno attribuito.

A: E qual è???

B: Non te lo dirò mai!

A: Ah... Forse ho capito...

A: Did you tell him your name?

B: Yes...

A: And why did he call you Fenicia?

B: I have no idea, but it's not the strangest name someone has given me.

A: And what is it???

B: I'll never tell you!

A: Ah... Maybe I know...

Divertirsi – to have fun

A: Come fai a ridere così tanto quando guardi i meme dei gatti?

B: Cosa vuoi che ti dica... Mi diverto con poco! Ah ah!

A: How can you laugh so much when you watch cat memes?

B: What can I say... It doesn’t take much to entertain me! Ha ha!

7. Farsi – to make oneself

A: A volte, farsi una doccia e poi un bel caffé è l’unico modo per ricaricare le batterie.

B: Parole sante, amico mio.

A: Ma se tu non bevi il caffè...

B: Beh, mi faccio la doccia.

A: Sometimes, taking a shower and then having a nice coffee is the only way to recharge your batteries.

B: Wise words, my friend.

A: But if you don't drink coffee...

B: Well, I take showers.

Imbucarsi – to crash (a party)

A: Sei riuscito ad imbucarti alla festa?

B: Certo, con un sorriso e una bottiglia di vino.

A: Ma almeno conoscevi qualcuno?

B: No, ma li conosco adesso e mi hanno invitato alla prossima festa. Vuoi venire?

A: E me lo chiedi? Non vedo l’ora di provare la loro piscina!

Innamorarsi – to fall in love

A: Conosci la canzone di Lucio Battisti ‘Mi sono innamorato di te’?

B: Intendi ‘Eppur mi son scordato di te’?

A: No, sono sicura, si era innamorato di lei.

B: Mi sa che si era scordato, ma la tua versione mi piace di più. È più romantica.

A: Do you know the song by Lucio Battisti ‘Mi sono innamorato di te’?

B: Do you mean ‘Eppur mi son scordato di te’?

A: No, I’m sure. He had fallen in love with her.

B: I think he had forgotten about her, but I like your version better. It’s more romantic.

Interrompersi – to interrupt oneself

A: Come mai sei già qui?

B: Durante la riunione su Zoom, la connessione si è interrotta più volte a causa del maltempo, così hanno mandato tutti a casa.

A: Che peccato! Adesso ti tocca giocare a Dota con me!

B: Oh no! Che gran sacrificio!

A: How come you’re already here?

B: During the Zoom meeting, the connection was interrupted several times due to bad weather, so they sent everyone home.

A: What a shame! Now you have to play Dota with me!

B: Oh no! What a sacrifice!
